Blog Marketing: Why Determining Your Interests Is So Important

I want to take a moment and add to the series Mike Paetzold has done about determining your interests and why it is so vitally important to do before you take on blogging and get into blog marketing.

Blogs can be a great traffic generator. However, the ability to “pull in” traffic from the search engines is directly related to your ability to post regularly on a consistent basis. It happens over time, building momentum — just like a train starts out very slow and builds up momentum until it gets to its optimal travel speed.

Well, if you really don’t have an interest in what you are blogging about, it will be difficult at best to sustain blogging on a regular and consistent basis because you will run out of things to talk about or it will become a chore.

In my opinion, blogging shouldn’t be a chore — it should be 10 or 15 minutes of talking about something that you love to talk about everyday. I should also point out that…

You absolutely DON’T have to be an expert of any kind to have a great blog. You can simply be a “novice in discovery”, using your blog to talk about the things you are learning and discovering as you talk about the topic or field of interest which your blog is focused on and that you enjoy talking about.

It’s far more important to be a credible and trustworthy information resource than it is to be an expert. That way, you are not only able to sustain your blog before it starts generating traffic, but when you do your blog marketing (recommending high quality products and services), people reading your blog will take your recommendation seriously.
